With this mortar, you grind and mix spices and herbs. Before first use, remove the grit left after polishing: put a bit of dry white rice in the mortar and grind, rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a soft cloth. Repeat this two times. Then grease the mortar with vegetable oil to provide a protective layer. Let the oil soak in the mortar during a few hours. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry. Do not use cleaning agents and steel sponges. Grease the inside of the mortar with vegetable oil from time to time.
